Longitudinal data from 1,889 Korean children tracked from ages 9 to 13 shows a consistent negative correlation between smartphone dependency and happiness. The dataset comprises four waves (2018–2021) of the nationally representative Korean Children and Youth Panel Survey (KCYPS). Minsol Kim analyzed the data using latent growth modeling, revealing less favorable happiness trajectories associated with higher smartphone dependency.
