Description
Raymond Vera created an agent-based model simulating astronaut interactions for the Artemis program's Lunar Gateway and South Pole Base missions. The model, published on figshare in May 2026, uses a framework with cognitive, emotional, and personality traits to explore mission outcomes. Monte Carlo simulations consisting of tens of thousands of iterations analyze trade-offs in productivity and psychological well-being.
Use Cases
Evaluate operational resilience of lunar mission teams based on simulated social interactions.
Analyze workload dynamics and team structures based on the Agent_Astronaut framework with cognitive and emotional states.
Model the long-term effects of human factors in space based on exogenous and endogenous factors described in the simulation.
Assess trade-offs between productivity and psychological well-being based on Monte Carlo simulation results.
Strengths
Model is grounded in literature on proxy environments like Antarctica and past space missions.
Simulation includes tens of thousands of Monte Carlo iterations for analysis.
