Description
From 2018 to 2022, this dataset analyzes dust dynamics in Khuzestan Province, Iran, using satellite-derived Aerosol Optical Depth (AOD) and Aerosol Absorption Index (AAI), ground-based PM₂.₅ and PM₁₀ measurements, HYSPLIT trajectory modeling, and wetland assessments. It was created by Alireza Yousefi Kebriya and shared under a CC-BY-4.0 license. The data reveals strong correlations between satellite and ground measurements and links dust peaks to drought, wetland shrinkage, and transboundary inflows.
Use Cases
Modeling dust source contributions and pathways based on HYSPLIT trajectory clustering and WPSCF/WCWT mapping.
Correlating wetland shrinkage with aerosol levels based on the described hydrological-air quality states and MNDWI values.
Validating satellite AOD data against ground-level PM₂.₅ and PM₁₀ concentrations using the reported R² correlations.
Analyzing seasonal and annual dust transport patterns to Ahvaz based on the identified six major pathways and wind rose analysis.
Strengths
Includes multi-year temporal coverage from 2018 to 2022.
Integrates multiple data sources: satellite AOD/AAI, ground PM measurements, trajectory modeling, and wetland area assessments.
Reports strong validation metrics, such as R² values of 0.79 between AOD and PM₂.₅ and 0.91 between AOD and PM₁₀.
Quantifies specific environmental thresholds, like the ~500 km² wetland area marking a sharp reduction in dust suppression.
Limitations
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
Row count is unknown, which may limit suitability assessment.
The dataset is very small (927.0 B), suggesting it may contain summary or processed results rather than raw observation records.
