Description
41 systemic sclerosis patients and 38 healthy controls underwent optical coherence tomography (OCT) imaging, revealing previously unreported fundus abnormalities. Drusen-like deposits were found in 46.3% of patients, a wide-based foveal pit in 63%, and epiretinal membranes in 21%, all significantly more frequent than in controls. This 20.6 KB Excel dataset by Lilla Smeller, last updated in April 2026, characterizes candidate retinal imaging features linked to the disease's microvascular and fibrotic burden.
Use Cases
Identifying retinal biomarkers for systemic sclerosis based on OCT-derived features like drusen-like deposits and foveal pit abnormalities.
Comparing ocular structure metrics, such as central retinal thickness and subfoveal choroidal thickness, between patient and control groups.
Training classification models to distinguish systemic sclerosis patients from healthy controls using the described ophthalmological measurements.
Investigating correlations between specific fundus findings (e.g., epiretinal membrane) and clinical disease severity or progression.
Strengths
Includes a matched control group of 38 healthy subjects for comparative analysis.
Reports specific, quantified prevalence rates for three distinct retinal abnormalities (e.g., 63% for wide-based foveal pit).
Data is shared under a permissive CC-BY-4.0 license, allowing for reuse and redistribution.
Limitations
Row count is unknown, which may limit suitability assessment for machine learning tasks.
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
The dataset is very small at 20.6 KB, indicating a limited scope and sample size.
