This dataset contains co-expression network modules identified from transcriptomic data across multiple fruit species, including apple, banana, and strawberry. The50,000+ genes were analyzed using weighted gene co-expression network analysis (WGCNA) to detect conserved and species-specific modules associated with ripening, stress response, and metabolite production. Modules are annotated with GO terms and KEGG pathways.
Use Cases
- Identify conserved co-expression modules across fruit species for evolutionary studies
- Extract candidate genes for fruit quality traits like sweetness or shelf-life
- Use module eigengenes as covariates in expression QTL mapping
Strengths
- Modules are derived from 50,000+ genes across 5 species providing broad coverage
- Each module is annotated with GO/KEGG enrichment p-values and eigengene stability scores (Z-summary > 5)
Limitations
- Network constructed from public RNA-seq data with varying sequencing depths
- Some modules may represent batch effects rather than biological signals
- Functional annotations are based on orthology mapping which may have errors
