Description
Six consecutive harvests every 30 days were conducted on five alfalfa varieties under controlled hydroponic conditions. The dataset likely contains measurements of yield, acid detergent fiber (ADF), neutral detergent fiber (NDF), and relative feeding value (RFV) for varieties Zhongcao No.13, WL440HQ, WL525HQ, WL903, and WL712. The data was authored by Yang Bai and published on figshare in April 2026.
Use Cases
Compare forage quality metrics like acid detergent fiber (ADF) and neutral detergent fiber (NDF) across alfalfa varieties.
Evaluate yield performance of different alfalfa cultivars under controlled hydroponic conditions.
Rank alfalfa varieties using principal component and membership function analysis based on combined yield and quality data.
Assess the suitability of specific alfalfa varieties for regional hydroponic cultivation based on relative feeding value (RFV).
Strengths
Contains specific quantitative ranges for key metrics: ADF (22.77% to 25.75%), NDF (28.31% to 32.42%), RFV (197.46 to 233.84), and yield (0.41 kg·m⁻² to 0.59 kg·m⁻²) for the WL903 variety.
Data is based on a controlled experiment with defined parameters: 25℃ temperature, 1.5x Hoagland nutrient solution, and a 10-hour photoperiod.
Includes results from statistical analyses (principal component and membership function) providing a ranked order of the five varieties.
Limitations
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
Row count is unknown, which may limit suitability assessment.
The results are based on specific light and nutrient conditions; applicability to other environments may require verification.
