Description
351 orbits of the Pioneer Venus Orbiter were tracked to produce line-of-sight gravity data. The dataset is a table containing spacecraft latitude, longitude, accelerations, and altitude, with accelerations derived from raw Doppler residuals and expressed in mm/s**2. It was produced by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration and last updated in March 2026.
Use Cases
Modeling Venus's gravity anomalies based on line-of-sight acceleration data
Analyzing the relationship between surface topography and gravity based on latitude, longitude, and altitude columns
Calibrating or validating gravity models for Venus based on spacecraft-derived measurements
Strengths
Data derived from 351 distinct spacecraft orbits, providing multiple observations.
Acceleration data is provided with a specific conversion factor (multiply by 100) to obtain gravity in milligals.
Limitations
Row count is unknown, which may limit suitability assessment.
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
