Description
Over 10 monitoring sites in the Pacific Coastal Basin have been tracked for at least 15 years. Environment and Climate Change Canada collected this long-term data on nutrients, metals, major ions, and other physical-chemical variables. The dataset supports assessments of water quality status, long-term trends, and the effectiveness of regulatory measures.
Use Cases
Analyze long-term trends in nutrient concentrations based on the 15+ year monitoring period.
Detect emerging water quality issues based on the monitoring of metals and major ions.
Establish or validate water quality guidelines based on the comprehensive physical-chemical measurements.
Track the effectiveness of environmental policies and remedial measures based on the longitudinal site data.
Strengths
Long-term data collection spanning at least 15 years.
Monitoring conducted by a national environmental agency (Environment and Climate Change Canada).
Covers multiple water quality variables including nutrients, metals, and major ions.
Data from over 10 sites provides spatial coverage within the Pacific Coastal Basin.
Limitations
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
Row count is unknown, which may limit suitability assessment.
Data may reflect geographic bias inherent to the specific Canadian basin.
