Description
HeiGIT provides risk assessment indicators for Panama at the administrative level 2, integrating data from WorldPop, OpenStreetMap, and Google Earth Engine. The dataset includes seven thematic layers covering demographics, facility counts, and accessibility metrics to support flood hazard analysis. Updated in March 2026, it serves as a foundation for disaster resilience and infrastructure modeling.
Use Cases
Analyzing healthcare accessibility by comparing access_pop_hospitals_30min against total population
Identifying vulnerable populations for flood response using children_u5 and elderly demographic counts
Evaluating infrastructure density by mapping education_count and primary_healthcare_count across districts
Strengths
Aggregated at administrative level 2 (districts) for localized planning
Includes multi-modal accessibility metrics like travel time (30min/1h/2h) and distance (5km/10km/20km)
Integrates high-resolution demographic data from WorldPop
Limitations
Facility counts rely on OpenStreetMap, which may have incomplete coverage in remote regions
Temporal staleness of underlying source data from WorldPop and OSM may vary

Collection Method
Aggregated from WorldPop, OpenStreetMap, Google Earth Engine, and openrouteservice via the GAIA Pipeline.
