From February 13 to March 19, 1993, this dataset contains discrete sample and profile observations collected from the R/V L'Atalante in the North and South Atlantic Ocean. It includes measurements of carbon dioxide partial pressure, dissolved inorganic carbon, pH, alkalinity, temperature, salinity, nutrients, and chlorofluorocarbons. The data were collected by Claude Oudot of Centre ORSTOM as part of the World Ocean Circulation Experiment (WOCE) Hydrographic Program.
Use Cases
- Modeling ocean carbon uptake and storage based on dissolved inorganic carbon and alkalinity measurements.
- Analyzing historical ocean acidification trends based on pH and partial pressure of carbon dioxide data.
- Studying ocean circulation and water mass properties using temperature, salinity, and chlorofluorocarbon tracers.
- Investigating marine biological productivity using chlorophyll a, nitrate, and phosphate measurements.
Strengths
- Data collection was part of the standardized World Ocean Circulation Experiment (WOCE) Hydrographic Program, suggesting a consistent methodology.
- Includes a wide array of co-located variables (over 20), allowing for multi-parameter analysis of ocean chemistry and physics.
- Covers a transect across both the North and South Atlantic Ocean during a specific cruise.
Limitations
- Last updated 1993-03-19; freshness should be verified.
- Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
- Row count is unknown, which may limit suitability assessment.
