From January to February 1993, this dataset contains discrete sample and profile measurements collected from the R/V L'Atalante in the North and South Atlantic Ocean during the WOCE_A07 cruise. It includes variables such as dissolved inorganic carbon, partial pressure of carbon dioxide, pH, alkalinity, temperature, salinity, nutrients, and chlorofluorocarbons. The data were collected by Claude Oudot of Centre ORSTOM as part of the World Ocean Circulation Experiment.
Use Cases
- Modeling ocean carbon uptake based on dissolved inorganic carbon and pCO2 measurements.
- Analyzing water mass properties and circulation using temperature, salinity, and chlorofluorocarbon tracers.
- Studying ocean acidification trends using pH and alkalinity data.
- Investigating nutrient cycling in the Atlantic Ocean based on nitrate, phosphate, and silicate measurements.
Strengths
- Data is part of the major World Ocean Circulation Experiment, a key climate research program.
- Covers multiple related variables for carbon chemistry and hydrography from a single cruise.
- Includes high-quality discrete bottle samples alongside CTD profile data.
Limitations
- Description metadata is limited; actual data quality requires manual inspection after download.
- Last updated 1993-02-10; freshness should be verified.
- Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
