Description
Coral Sea, North Pacific Ocean, Philippine Sea, Solomon Sea, and South Pacific Ocean data were collected from the R/V MIRAI between April 10 and July 3, 2009. The dataset contains discrete sample, profile, and underway-surface observations of carbon system parameters, CFCs, nutrients, and physical oceanographic variables. It supports the International CLIVAR Global Ocean Carbon and Repeat Hydrography Program's mission to quantify changes in ocean heat, freshwater, and carbon dioxide storage.
Use Cases
Quantifying changes in ocean carbon storage based on dissolved inorganic carbon and alkalinity measurements.
Calculating anthropogenic carbon uptake from partial pressure of carbon dioxide and related underway-surface data.
Studying biogeochemical cycles through concurrent nitrate, phosphate, silicate, and dissolved oxygen profiles.
Calibrating and validating ocean carbon cycle models with high-quality, multi-parameter hydrographic sections.
Strengths
Contains a multi-parameter suite of over 20 chemical, physical, and meteorological variables.
Data collection followed standardized CLIVAR/WOCE/JGOFS repeat hydrography protocols.
Covers a wide geographic transect across five Pacific Ocean basins and seas.
Includes both high-resolution underway surface data and discrete depth profiles.
Limitations
Key metadata conflicts exist: the author's affiliation is listed as both Japan Agency for Marine-Earth Science and Technology (JAMSTEC) and Meteorological Research Institute.
Essential technical details are missing: column names, row count, file size, and specific data license are unknown.
The dataset's structure and accessibility are unclear, with only HTML format listed.
Provenance
Source
Akihiko Murata (affiliation conflict: JAMSTEC / Meteorological Research Institute)
Collection Method
Data collected via Alkalinity titrator, CTD, Carbon dioxide gas analyzer, Coulometer, equilibrator, spectrophotometer, and bottle samples aboard the R/V MIRAI.
