Description
NCEI Accession 0157419 contains surface underway data collected by the MIRAI research vessel in the Bismarck Sea, North Pacific Ocean, and South Pacific Ocean from December 20, 2011, to February 9, 2012. The dataset includes measurements of partial pressure of carbon dioxide in air and water, salinity, sea surface temperature, wind speed, wind direction, and barometric pressure. These data were collected by Akihiko Murata of JAMSTEC using a carbon dioxide gas analyzer as part of the CLIVAR_P10_2011_Underway data set.
Use Cases
Modeling air-sea carbon dioxide flux based on partial pressure measurements.
Analyzing correlations between sea surface temperature and carbon dioxide partial pressure.
Studying regional variations in ocean carbon chemistry across the Pacific Ocean.
Validating satellite-derived sea surface salinity products with in-situ measurements.
Investigating meteorological influences on ocean carbon uptake based on wind and barometric pressure data.
Strengths
Data collection spans a specific 52-day research cruise from 2011-12-20 to 2012-02-09.
Includes directly measured chemical (CO2 partial pressure), physical (salinity, SST), and meteorological (wind, pressure) variables.
Data originates from a recognized research institution (JAMSTEC) and is part of the CLIVAR_P10_2011_Underway program.
Limitations
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
