Description
Surface underway measurements of carbon dioxide partial pressure, salinity, and temperature were collected aboard the LAURENCE M. GOULD research vessel in the South Atlantic, South Pacific, and Southern Oceans from December 30, 2011, to December 23, 2012. The data include barometric pressure, atmospheric and aquatic carbon dioxide fugacity, salinity, and sea surface temperature. These data were collected by researchers from Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory, NOAA ESRL, and the University of Colorado - Boulder as part of the VOS_LMG_NOAA_2012 dataset.
Use Cases
Modeling ocean-atmosphere CO2 flux based on partial pressure measurements in air and water.
Analyzing seasonal carbon dynamics in the Southern Ocean based on time-series data from 2011-2012.
Correlating sea surface temperature and salinity with carbon dioxide fugacity for biogeochemical studies.
Validating regional carbon cycle models using in-situ surface underway measurements.
Strengths
Data covers a specific one-year time range from 2011-12-30 to 2012-12-23.
Includes key variables for carbon flux calculation: atmospheric and aquatic CO2 fugacity, temperature, and salinity.
Collected by authoritative institutions: Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory, NOAA ESRL, and University of Colorado - Boulder.
Limitations
Row count and dataset size are unknown, which may limit suitability assessment.
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
Data may reflect geographic and temporal bias inherent to a single vessel track.
