Surface underway chemical and meteorological data were collected aboard the CEFAS ENDEAVOUR in the North Sea from October 7 to 17, 2012. David J. Pearce and Naomi Greenwood of Cefas measured partial pressure of carbon dioxide in air and water, salinity, sea surface temperature, and barometric pressure. These observations contribute to the Coastal_CEND_17_12 dataset.
Use Cases
- Modeling air-sea carbon dioxide flux based on partial pressure differences mentioned in the description
- Analyzing temporal trends in marine chemistry based on continuous underway measurements
- Correlating sea surface temperature with carbon dioxide solubility based on concurrent measurements
- Assessing regional carbon dynamics in the North Sea based on the specified geographic coverage
Strengths
- Data includes concurrent atmospheric and aquatic carbon dioxide measurements, enabling flux calculations
- Collection period spans 11 days in October 2012, providing a continuous time series
- Specific instruments like a CO2 gas analyzer and equilibrator are documented
Limitations
- Row count is unknown, which may limit suitability assessment
- Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download
- Data may reflect temporal bias inherent to a single cruise in 2012
