Perfluorooctanesulfonic acid (PFOS) exposure contributed to an estimated 10.81 million diabetes cases in nine Chinese provinces in 2018. Ya Gao combined meta-analysis results with province-specific PFOS concentrations, diabetes prevalence, and demographic data to estimate this burden from 2012 to 2018. The study found men bore more than twice the attributable burden of women, and burden peaked among adults aged 50–54 years.
