Description
Between 2018 and 2021, 33 wide diameter gouge cores were collected from 19 UK saltmarshes as part of the C-SIDE project. The dataset provides quantitative measurements of soil properties including dry bulk density, organic carbon content, nitrogen content, CN ratio, δ13Corg, and δ15N to facilitate the calculation of organic carbon burial rates.
Use Cases
Calculate organic carbon burial rates in saltmarsh soils using dry bulk density and organic carbon content measurements.
Analyze the relationship between sediment types and soil biogeochemistry using nitrogen content, CN ratio, δ13Corg, and δ15N data.
Model carbon storage potential across contrasting UK saltmarsh habitats using core data on organic carbon content and dry bulk density.
Investigate substrate and vegetation influences on soil properties via measurements of dry bulk density, nitrogen content, and δ15N.
Strengths
Data from 33 soil cores collected across 19 distinct UK saltmarsh sites.
Covers a 3-year temporal range from 2018 to 2021.
Provides multiple quantitative soil measurements including dry bulk density, organic carbon, nitrogen, and isotopic signatures.
Limitations
Sample size is limited to 33 cores, which may constrain statistical power for some analyses.
Geographic scope is restricted to UK saltmarshes, limiting generalizability to other regions.
