Description
Seaglider SG610 collected measurements of physical oceanographic properties, including temperature, salinity, conductivity, and density, during a deployment funded by the Disaster Relief Appropriations Act of 2013. The data were processed and aggregated by the Integrated Ocean Observing System's National Glider Data Assembly Center and archived by NOAA's National Centers for Environmental Information. The deployment occurred from August 11 to November 18, 2015, in the North Atlantic Ocean.
Use Cases
Analyze temperature and salinity profiles to study water mass structure and ocean heat content in the North Atlantic.
Model glider trajectory and density variations to understand ocean currents and mixing processes.
Correlate conductivity and temperature measurements for sensor validation and quality control analysis.
Use time-series physical property data as input for forecasting Atlantic tropical cyclone intensity.
Strengths
Data covers a specific 3-month deployment period from a single glider, providing a consistent time series.
Includes core physical oceanographic variables (temperature, salinity, conductivity, density) essential for hydrodynamic studies.
Data underwent quality checks for netCDF compliance and aggregation by the IOOS National Glider Data Assembly Center.
Limitations
The dataset is from a single glider deployment, limiting spatial coverage and generalizability.
Data is from 2015 and may not reflect current ocean conditions.
The exact row count, sampling frequency, and data resolution are unknown.
Provenance
Source
NOAA National Centers for Environmental Information (NCEI) via the Integrated Ocean Observing System's National Glider Data Assembly Center.
Collection Method
Measurements gathered by Seaglider SG610, an autonomous underwater vehicle, and transmitted as netCDF files.
