Description
June 20 to September 3, 2018, this dataset contains physical oceanographic profile measurements from a Spray glider deployment. The glider, sp010, was deployed by the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution and data was archived by NOAA's National Centers for Environmental Information. It includes measurements of properties like temperature, salinity, conductivity, and density.
Use Cases
Analyze vertical profiles of temperature and salinity to study water column stratification during summer 2018.
Map the glider's trajectory and correlate density measurements with coastal current dynamics.
Validate regional ocean models using in-situ conductivity and temperature data from the glider's time-series.
Investigate spatial-temporal variability of physical properties along the US/Canada East Coast deployment path.
Strengths
Data spans a 76-day continuous deployment period from June to September 2018.
Includes core physical oceanographic variables (temperature, salinity, conductivity, density) for profile analysis.
Data underwent quality checks and aggregation by the IOOS National Glider Data Assembly Center (NGDAC).
Limitations
Specific row count, column details, and file size are unknown.
Limited temporal scope to a single summer season, restricting long-term trend analysis.
Geographic coverage is confined to a specific glider track on the US/Canada East Coast.
Provenance
Source
Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution (deployment), NOAA National Centers for Environmental Information (NCEI) via IOOS National Glider Data Assembly Center (NGDAC).
Collection Method
Measurements collected by an autonomous Spray glider (sp010) during its deployment.
