A 2001 campaign by SCIOPS captured ice fish larvae (Family Channichthyidae) to study nitric oxide synthase isoforms as hypoxia markers, larval development status, and oxygen consumption. The study also examined ichthyoplankton distribution relative to oceanographic parameters and analyzed oxygen consumption of krill (Euphasia superba) at different life stages. Data collection involved a stratified network of oceanographic stations, with repeated sampling at Port Foster in Deception Island and an 11-station N-S line in the Bransfield Strait.
