Description
65 endoscopic pituitary surgery videos with a mean duration of 90 minutes, performed at the Hospital Universitario 12 de Octubre in Madrid, Spain. Each video is labeled with eight distinct surgical phases, including a 'Phase 0' for moments when the endoscope is outside the patient's body. The dataset was created by the SurgeryAI research project, funded by MICIU/AEI, for developing AI models to support surgical planning and workflow automation.
Use Cases
Train surgical phase recognition models based on the eight labeled phases in the videos.
Develop real-time surgical guidance systems based on the annotated video workflow.
Research workflow automation in neurosurgery based on the structured phase transitions.
Benchmark computer vision algorithms for endoscopic video analysis based on the labeled surgical phases.
Strengths
Contains 65 high-resolution surgical videos with a mean duration of 90 minutes each.
Videos are annotated with eight distinct surgical phases, providing a structured framework for analysis.
Includes a specific 'Phase 0' label to account for non-surgical video segments, enhancing data clarity.
Data collection was performed at a single, named hospital (Hospital Universitario 12 de Octubre), suggesting consistent procedural standards.
Limitations
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
Row count is unknown, which may limit suitability assessment for large-scale model training.
Data may reflect geographic and procedural bias inherent to a single hospital in Madrid.
