Description
Places of Use - Surface/Livestock is a geospatial dataset from the State of Oregon depicting water right locations. It includes Points of Diversion (POD) and Places of Use (POU) polygons for all current, individually held water rights, excluding those held by irrigation districts, applications, temporary transfers, instream leases, and limited licenses. The data was last updated on March 22, 2026.
Use Cases

Analyze spatial relationships between water diversion points and agricultural or livestock use areas.
Support water rights administration and compliance monitoring based on the documented compilation procedures.
Conduct regional water availability assessments by aggregating individual water right data.
Strengths
Data is provided in multiple geospatial formats (CSV, JSON, KML, GeoJSON) for flexibility.
Includes both point (POD) and polygon (POU) data for comprehensive spatial analysis.
Official compilation procedures and code definitions are linked for documentation.
Limitations
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
Row count is unknown, which may limit suitability assessment.
Excludes water rights held by irrigation districts and other specified categories, limiting coverage.
