Description
Planck satellite data from August 13, 2009 to November 26, 2010 was processed by three pipelines to detect galaxy clusters via the Sunyaev-Zel'dovich effect. The catalogs, a component of Planck Data Release 1, provide coordinates, signal-to-noise ratios, and external validation information for candidate clusters. This specific list contains the results from the PowellSnakes (PwS) detection pipeline.
Use Cases
Validate galaxy cluster detection algorithms based on the comparison of three independent pipelines (MMF1, MMF3, PwS).
Study the distribution and properties of galaxy clusters based on coordinates and signal-to-noise ratios.
Cross-match and validate cluster candidates based on external identification and redshift information.
Analyze the performance of the PowellSnakes (PwS) detection method relative to other matched filter techniques.
Strengths
Data originates from the Planck satellite mission, a major space observatory.
Provides results from three independent detection pipelines (MMF1, MMF3, PwS) for expert assessment.
Includes external validation information such as cluster identification and redshift where available.
Limitations
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
Row count is unknown, which may limit suitability assessment.
Data may reflect temporal bias inherent to the specific Planck observation period.
