Plankton Imager zooplankton data, acoustic fish biomass estimates, chlorophyll measurements and CTD data were collected from the Celtic Sea and Western English Channel onboard the RV Cefas Endeavour in October 2018. The dataset includes species and size data for zooplankton, pelagic fish biomass estimates from acoustics, and temperature and salinity data from CTDs. It is aggregated by the Marine Environmental Data & Information Network.
Use Cases
- Modeling predator-prey relationships based on concurrent zooplankton and fish biomass data
- Analyzing plankton community composition and size structure based on Plankton Imager data
- Investigating correlations between chlorophyll levels and zooplankton abundance
- Studying water column structure and its influence on marine life based on CTD temperature and salinity profiles
Strengths
- Integrates multiple data types (species counts, biomass estimates, chlorophyll, CTD) from a single research cruise
- Data is spatially and temporally co-located, collected from the Celtic Sea and Western English Channel in October 2018
- Collected using established marine research instruments (Plankton Imager, acoustic sensors, CTD)
Limitations
- Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download
- Row count is unknown, which may limit suitability assessment
- Data reflects geographic and temporal bias inherent to a single cruise in October 2018
