Description
Point load test data for salt samples collected from the Northwich Halite Member at the Winsford Mine in Cheshire, UK. The dataset is compiled into a single Microsoft Excel file, with each row representing an individual test conducted in the Rock Mechanics and Physics Laboratory at the British Geological Survey, Keyworth. For each test, measurements of sample length, diameter, and peak load are provided, along with calculated point load strength indices and estimates of unconfined compressive strength.
Use Cases
Calibrating constitutive models for salt rock based on point load strength indices.
Estimating unconfined compressive strength of halite for geomechanical analysis.
Analyzing the relationship between sample dimensions and failure load in unconfined compression tests.
Strengths
Data originates from a specific geological formation (Northwich Halite Member) and location (Winsford Mine).
Tests were conducted in a dedicated laboratory (Rock Mechanics and Physics Laboratory at the British Geological Survey).
Dataset includes both raw measurements (sample length, diameter, peak load) and derived engineering indices.
Limitations
Row count is unknown, which may limit suitability assessment.
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
Last update date is unknown; freshness unverified.
