Description
Preliminary results from a 2007-initiated program of field and laboratory investigations. The data includes U-Pb analysis of detrital zircons from quartz sandstone beds, using ion probe mass spectrometry, to constrain the provenance, age, and environment of deposition of the Paleoproterozoic Wernecke Supergroup. The report is provided by the Government of Yukon.
Use Cases
Constrain the maximum depositional age of the Wernecke Supergroup based on the youngest detrital grain age of 1.61 ± 0.03 Ga.
Compare detrital zircon age patterns to other Paleo- to Mesoproterozoic basins in Canada based on the described patterns.
Investigate the provenance and source of sedimentary rocks based on the isotopic analysis of detrital minerals.
Better constrain the age of subsequent Proterozoic deformation (Racklan orogeny) based on the program's stated objectives.
Strengths
Provides a specific maximum age constraint for the Supergroup of 1.61 ± 0.03 Ga.
Analysis uses ion probe mass spectrometry, a precise isotopic method.
Data collection program was initiated in 2007, suggesting a multi-year investigation.
Limitations
Row count is unknown, which may limit suitability assessment.
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
Data is described as 'preliminary results', indicating it may not be final.
