Description
NOAA_NCEI Accession 9700169 contains temperature, salinity, and other oceanographic data collected from CTD casts aboard the R/V New Horizon. The data includes measurements of depth, temperature, salinity, sigma-theta, light attenuation, and dynamic height. Collection occurred in the Southern California Bight from May 10 to May 16, 1986.
Use Cases
Analyze vertical water column structure based on depth, temperature, and salinity profiles.
Study water mass density and stability based on sigma-theta measurements.
Investigate light penetration and optical properties in coastal waters based on light attenuation data.
Calculate geostrophic currents or relative ocean circulation based on dynamic height data.
Strengths
Data includes multiple key oceanographic variables: temperature, salinity, sigma-theta, light attenuation, and dynamic height.
Collection period is precisely defined from 1986-05-10 to 1986-05-16.
Geographic scope is clearly specified as the Southern California Bight.
