Description
Processed acoustic backscatter data from a survey on the Cefas Endeavour research vessel. The data was used to assess the location, extent, and condition of 'Sandbanks' and 'Reefs' habitats in the Haisborough, Hammond and Winterton cSAC and the Inner Dowsing, Race Bank and North Ridge cSAC. The dataset is provided by the Government Digital Service under an Open Government Licence.
Use Cases
Map seafloor substrate types based on processed acoustic backscatter data.
Assess the condition and extent of Annex 1 marine habitats like 'Sandbanks' and 'Reefs'.
Validate habitat models using ground-truthing data referenced in the survey description.
Support marine spatial planning and conservation management for designated Special Areas of Conservation (cSAC).
Strengths
Data is derived from a dedicated scientific survey using acoustic methods and ground truthing.
Focuses on specific, legally protected Annex 1 habitats ('Sandbanks' and 'Reefs').
Covers multiple designated UK marine conservation areas (cSACs).
Limitations
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
Row count and file size are unknown, which may limit suitability assessment.
Last update date is unknown; freshness unverified.
