A new liquid chromatography-coupled tandem mass spectrometry method quantified N⁶-methyl-, -acetyl-, and -formyl-lysine modifications on histone proteins from human TK6 cells. The study reports N⁶-formyllysine levels of 1–4 modifications per 10⁴ lysines, contrasting with acetylation and methylation levels ranging from 1.5 to 1400 per 10⁴ lysines. The research was conducted by Bahar Edrissi of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
