Description
GRHQ is the common hydrographic reference framework for Quebec, produced by the provincial government in partnership with MELCCFP and MRNF. It integrates geometric networks, thematic information, and management units from multiple authoritative sources including the 1:20,000 scale Quebec Topographic Database and 1:50,000 scale CanVec data.
Use Cases
Model water flow continuity using the linear geometric network representing flow across all hydrographic entities.
Analyze watershed management boundaries using the surface entities representing hydrographic division units (UDHs).
Enrich hydrographic context with thematic point, line, and surface classes from the integrated data sources.
Support land use planning by combining geometric network data with official toponyms from the TOPOS database.
Strengths
Integrates data from multiple authoritative government sources including MELCCFP and MRNF.
Provides detailed geometric representation at scales of 1:20,000 for southern Quebec and 1:50,000 for the north.
Includes thematic enrichment through context entities represented in point, line, and surface forms.
Limitations
Specific row counts, column structures, and dataset size are unknown from the provided metadata.
Data is delivered in multiple formats (SHP, FGDB/GDB, CSV, etc.), which may require specialized GIS tools for full utilization.
Relies on automated translation for some metadata elements, which could introduce terminology inconsistencies.
