Description
The R/V Laurence M. Gould collected this underway data during leg LMG0614, which traveled from Punta Arenas, Chile, and returned to the same port. The dataset, hosted by NASA Earthdata and last updated in December 2006, supports global change studies in biological, chemical, physical, and oceanographic disciplines for the U.S. Antarctic Program.
Use Cases
Analyze physical oceanographic conditions (e.g., temperature, salinity) along the transit route.
Study biological and chemical properties of Antarctic waters based on the described measurement disciplines.
Model ship-based transit patterns and environmental sampling for polar logistics.
Correlate underway measurements with other Antarctic datasets for climate studies.
Strengths
Data originates from a dedicated NSF-supported research icebreaker.
Covers multiple scientific disciplines: biological, chemical, physical, and oceanographic.
Specific transit leg (LMG0614) with known start and end points (Punta Arenas, Chile).
Limitations
Last updated 2006-12 26 23:59:59.999000; freshness should be verified.
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
