Description
Underway data was collected during leg LMG0902 of the NSF-supported research icebreaker R/V Laurence M. Gould. The leg operated in support of the U.S. Antarctic Program, conducting global change studies in biological, chemical, physical, and oceanographic disciplines. The cruise started and ended in Punta Arenas, Chile, and the data was last updated in March 2009.
Use Cases
Analyzing physical oceanographic conditions (e.g., temperature, salinity) along the cruise track.
Studying biological and chemical indicators of marine ecosystems in Antarctic waters.
Investigating patterns of global change in the Southern Ocean based on multidisciplinary underway measurements.
Correlating cruise track data with other paleoclimate or extinction event research.
Strengths
Data originates from a dedicated NSF-supported research icebreaker, suggesting a controlled collection environment.
Covers multidisciplinary measurements including biological, chemical, physical, and oceanographic data.
Provides a specific temporal anchor with a last updated date of 2009-03-16.
Limitations
Description metadata is limited; actual data quality requires manual inspection after download.
Last updated 2009-03-16 23:59:59.999000; freshness should be verified.
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
