Description
Underway data was collected during leg LMG1002 of the R/V Laurence M. Gould, an NSF-supported research icebreaker. The leg started and ended in Punta Arenas, Chile, in support of the U.S. Antarctic Program. The dataset was last updated on March 25, 2010, and originates from the organization SCIOPS.
Use Cases
Analyze physical oceanographic conditions along the cruise track based on underway data.
Study biological and chemical properties of Antarctic waters based on the described global change studies.
Model ship-based logistical support patterns for Antarctic research stations.
Correlate underway measurements with other Antarctic environmental datasets.
Strengths
Data originates from a dedicated NSF-supported research icebreaker, suggesting a controlled collection environment.
Dataset is associated with a specific, documented research leg (LMG1002) with known start and end points.
Limitations
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
