Description
R/V Laurence M. Gould collected this data during a 2011 Antarctic research leg, LMG1109, which began and ended in Punta Arenas, Chile. The NSF-supported icebreaker operates year-round, conducting global change studies in biological, chemical, physical, and oceanographic disciplines. This dataset consists of the underway measurements recorded during that specific voyage.
Use Cases
Analyzing temporal patterns in oceanographic conditions based on underway time-series data.
Studying biological or chemical changes along the ship's track in Antarctic waters.
Correlating physical oceanographic measurements with other Antarctic climate datasets.
Modeling ship-based observation routes and data collection strategies for polar research.
Strengths
Data originates from a dedicated NSF-supported Antarctic research icebreaker.
Covers a specific research voyage (LMG1109) with a known start and end point (Punta Arenas, Chile).
Platform tags indicate it includes time-series and multi-disciplinary (biological, chemical, physical, oceanographic) measurements.
