Description
Underway data was collected during leg LMG1205 of the NSF-supported research icebreaker R/V Laurence M. Gould. The cruise operated in support of the U.S. Antarctic Program, conducting global change studies in biological, chemical, physical, and oceanographic disciplines. The leg started and ended in Punta Arenas, Chile, and the data was last updated by SCIOPS in May 2012.
Use Cases
Analyze temporal patterns in oceanographic conditions based on the underway time-series data.
Study biological and chemical changes in Antarctic waters based on the multidisciplinary data collection.
Model physical oceanographic processes in the Southern Ocean based on the cruise track and collected data.
Investigate global change impacts on polar marine systems based on the described research focus.
Strengths
Data originates from a dedicated NSF-supported research icebreaker, indicating a controlled collection environment.
Covers multiple scientific disciplines (biological, chemical, physical, oceanographic) for a holistic view.
Provides a specific temporal and geographical context for the cruise leg (LMG1205, Punta Arenas to Punta Arenas).
Limitations
Description metadata is limited; actual data quality requires manual inspection after download.
Last updated 2012-05-30 23:59:59.999000; freshness should be verified.
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
