Description
The NSF-supported research icebreaker Laurence M. Gould collected this underway data during leg LMG1805. The cruise started and ended in Punta Arenas, Chile, conducting global change studies in biological, chemical, physical, and oceanographic disciplines. The dataset was last updated by SCIOPS on June 19, 2018.
Use Cases
Analyze temperature-depth profiles based on the Expendable Bathythermograph (XBT) data mentioned in the platform tags.
Study temporal changes in oceanographic conditions based on the time-series nature of the underway data.
Model physical oceanographic processes in Antarctic regions based on the cruise's stated research focus.
Correlate biological or chemical observations with physical water column data based on the multidisciplinary research scope.
Strengths
Data originates from a dedicated NSF-supported research icebreaker, suggesting a controlled collection environment.
Focuses on the Antarctic region, a critical area for global change studies.
Covers multiple oceanographic disciplines (biological, chemical, physical) as stated in the description.
Limitations
Description metadata is limited; actual data quality requires manual inspection after download.
