Description
Underway data was collected during leg LMG9903 of the R/V Laurence M. Gould icebreaker in support of the U.S. Antarctic Program. The National Science Foundation-supported vessel operates year-round for global change studies in biological, chemical, physical, and oceanographic disciplines. This specific leg started and ended in Punta Arenas, Chile, with data last updated in April 1999.
Use Cases
Analyzing temporal patterns in oceanographic conditions based on underway data collection.
Studying biological and chemical changes in Antarctic waters based on the described global change research focus.
Modeling physical oceanographic processes in the Southern Ocean based on the vessel's operational area.
Correlating ship-track data with other Antarctic environmental datasets based on the geospatial nature of underway data.
Strengths
Data originates from a dedicated NSF-supported research icebreaker, indicating a scientific collection context.
Covers multiple disciplines relevant to global change, as stated in the description.
