Description
R/V Nathaniel B. Palmer collected this data during a 2000 research leg focused on bentho-pelagic coupling in the West Antarctic. The NSF-supported icebreaker gathered biological, chemical, physical, and oceanographic measurements while underway between Punta Arenas, Chile, and Punta Arenas, Chile. The dataset is managed by SCIOPS and was last updated in June 2000.
Use Cases
Modeling carbon flux and bentho-pelagic coupling based on biological and chemical measurements mentioned in the description.
Analyzing temporal changes in oceanographic conditions based on the time-series underway data.
Studying the impact of phytoplankton blooms on Antarctic seafloor communities based on the research theme.
Correlating physical oceanographic data with biological processes in the West Antarctic shelf region.
Strengths
Data originates from a dedicated NSF-supported research icebreaker, suggesting authoritative collection.
Covers multiple oceanographic disciplines (biological, chemical, physical) as stated in the description.
Focuses on a specific and impactful research theme: bentho-pelagic coupling on the West Antarctic Shelf.
