Description
R/V Nathaniel B. Palmer leg NBP0101 collected underway data during a research cruise in the Indian Sector of the Southern Ocean. The NSF-supported icebreaker conducted global change studies in biological, chemical, physical, and oceanographic disciplines. The dataset originates from a voyage that started and ended in Hobart, Tasmania, and was last updated in March 2001.
Use Cases
Modeling carbon export and primary production based on underway biogeochemical measurements.
Analyzing physical oceanographic conditions in the Southern Ocean based on continuous underway sampling.
Studying seasonal or spatial variability in Antarctic marine ecosystems based on the cruise track and collected data.
Calibrating satellite ocean color data with in-situ measurements from the research voyage.
Strengths
Data originates from a dedicated NSF-supported Antarctic research icebreaker, suggesting authoritative collection methods.
Focuses on the under-sampled Indian Sector of the Southern Ocean, a critical region for climate studies.
