Description
Underway data was collected during leg NBP1406 of the R/V Nathaniel B. Palmer research icebreaker. The cruise operated in support of the U.S. Antarctic Program, conducting global change studies in biological, chemical, physical, and oceanographic disciplines. The leg started and ended at Punta Arenas, Chile, and the dataset was last updated in August 2014.
Use Cases
Analyzing temporal patterns of oceanographic conditions based on underway data collection.
Studying biological and chemical properties in Antarctic waters for global change research.
Correlating physical oceanographic measurements with other regional climate datasets.
Modeling ship-track environmental transects for specific research legs.
Strengths
Data originates from a dedicated NSF-supported research icebreaker, indicating a scientific collection context.
Covers multiple disciplines including biological, chemical, physical, and oceanographic measurements.
Provides a specific temporal and geographic context for a research leg between Punta Arenas, Chile.
Limitations
Description metadata is limited; actual data quality requires manual inspection after download.
