Description
R/V Nathaniel B. Palmer, a U.S. Antarctic Program research icebreaker, collected this data during a 1997 transit leg. The dataset contains underway measurements from a round-trip voyage starting and ending in Punta Arenas, Chile, supporting global change studies across biological, chemical, physical, and oceanographic disciplines. It was last updated in October 1997.
Use Cases
Analyzing physical oceanographic conditions during Antarctic transit based on underway data mentioned in the description.
Studying temporal patterns in marine chemical or biological parameters collected during the voyage.
Correlating in-situ Antarctic measurements with broader global change models referenced in the description.
Investigating baseline environmental conditions for a specific Antarctic research cruise leg.
Strengths
Data originates from a dedicated, NSF-supported research icebreaker, indicating a controlled collection environment.
