Description
Five sediment cores from the northern North Atlantic provide data supporting research on paleomagnetic secular variation over the last 15,000 years. The dataset includes radiocarbon dates, tephra data, paleomagnetic measurements, and independent age models for each core, compiled by Brendan T. Reilly of Columbia University for a 2023 publication. It also contains a synthesized paleomagnetic stack (GREENICE15) and Dynamic Time Warping solutions aligning three cores to a target curve.
Use Cases
Constructing and validating radiocarbon-based age models for marine sediment cores based on the provided independent age models.
Analyzing paleomagnetic secular variation (inclination and declination) over the Holocene and late Pleistocene based on the characteristic remanent magnetization data.
Correlating marine sediment records using volcanic ash layers based on the tephra data mentioned in the description.
Applying Dynamic Time Warping (DTW) techniques to align paleoclimate proxy records based on the provided DTW solutions for three cores.
Developing regional paleomagnetic stacks for the North Atlantic region based on the methodology for the GREENICE15 PSV Stack.
Strengths
Includes data from five distinct sediment cores (MD99-2264, MD99-2265, MD99-2266, MD99-2269, MD99-2322), enabling multi-record analysis.
Provides independent age models for each core, which are critical for establishing a reliable chronology.
Combines multiple data types: radiocarbon dates, tephra identifications, and paleomagnetic measurements (inclination, declination, alpha 95).
Limitations
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
Row count is unknown, which may limit suitability assessment for large-scale statistical methods.
Last update date is unknown; freshness unverified.
