Description
A catalog of 1,207 variable X-ray sources identified from a systematic analysis of approximately 30,000 point sources in the ROSAT All-Sky Survey (RASS). The NASA HEASARC created this table in July 2003, presenting results from variability algorithms designed to detect flares, periods, and trends. Sources were optically identified with counterparts in SIMBAD, USNO-A2.0, and NED databases, though many lack cataloged optical counterparts.
Use Cases
Train anomaly detection models for X-ray flares based on the described variability algorithms.
Conduct cross-matching studies between X-ray and optical catalogs based on the described SIMBAD, USNO-A2.0, and NED identifications.
Analyze time-series patterns in X-ray emission based on the generated lightcurves for 30,000 sources.
Build classification models for periodic versus aperiodic variable sources based on the search for periods and trends.
Strengths
Contains a complete list of 1,207 identified variable X-ray sources.
Analysis is based on lightcurves generated for approximately 30,000 X-ray point sources.
Sources are cross-referenced with established astronomical databases (SIMBAD, USNO-A2.0, NED).
Limitations
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
A significant part of the X-ray sources remain without cataloged optical counterparts, limiting certain analyses.
