Description
Polar ecosystems, including Arctic and Antarctic seawaters, saline lakes, and sea ice, are the source for 1,573 giant virus metagenome-assembled genomes (GVMAGs). The dataset was reconstructed from 1,198 polar metagenomes and is authored by Jianyi Feng. It was last updated on May 18, 2026.
Use Cases
Comparative genomics of giant viruses based on assembled genome sequences
Analysis of viral community structure in polar ecosystems based on metagenomic sampling
Investigation of viral adaptation to extreme cold and saline conditions based on polar habitat metadata
