Description
Over four Antarctic summers from 1987-88 to 1990-91, the Osservatorio Geofisico Sperimentale collected magnetic, gravimetric, and seismic data in the Ross Sea using the R/V OGS Explora. The survey acquired a total of at least 9,682 kilometers of seismic profiles, including multichannel and refraction data, with detailed acquisition parameters provided for each campaign. This research was conducted under Italy's National Research Program in Antarctica (PNRA), coordinated by ENEA.
Use Cases
Modeling the structure of the Earth's crust based on deep seismic lines recorded at 4 ms sampling.
Analyzing sedimentary layers and geological features using multichannel seismic profiles with specified coverage and record lengths.
Integrating magnetic and gravity data with seismic profiles for comprehensive geophysical interpretation of the Ross Sea.
Studying specific sites of interest using data acquired with modified parameters, such as 6000% coverage and 2 ms sample rate.
Strengths
Contains over 9,682 kilometers of seismic profiles from four distinct field campaigns.
Provides highly specific acquisition parameters for each campaign, including coverage, sample rate, and equipment details.
Includes multiple geophysical data types: reflection seismic, refraction seismic, magnetic, and gravimetric data.
