Description
Northern Ireland's Drinking Water Inspectorate maintains a register of private water supplies for human consumption not provided by the public utility. The dataset represents this register as a spatial layer of 100-meter grid squares randomly placed around each supply location, including both current and historical monitoring points. It was created on August 28, 2019, and superseded on December 31, 2019.
Use Cases
Map the distribution of private water supplies based on the described spatial grid layer.
Analyze compliance and monitoring coverage for public or commercial premises mentioned in the regulations.
Identify areas reliant on non-public water sources for human consumption, cooking, or food preparation.
Create dashboards for water safety oversight using the described visualisation and analysis capabilities.
Strengths
Spatial data is provided in multiple standard formats (KML, GeoJSON, ESRI SHAPE) for interoperability.
Dataset scope is clearly defined by the Private Water Supplies Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2017.
Includes both currently and historically monitored supplies, providing a temporal dimension.
Limitations
Row count and dataset size are unknown, which may limit suitability assessment.
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
The data is historical, having been superseded at the end of 2019.
