Eight selected PAHs, including acenaphthene and pyrene, were present at an initial concentration of 4 g/kg soil. Tuomo A. Aunola of Tampere University conducted a laboratory-scale study combining modified Fenton's reaction with 30% H2O2 and aerobic biological treatment, achieving up to a 55% reduction in total PAHs. The soil was rich in iron at 16.4 g Fe/kg and had a pH of 5-6.
