Data submitted prior to March 2015 were considered for this reprocessing project. Aurora Geosciences Ltd performed a review of publicly available digital magnetic geophysical data from assessment reports to develop standardized products. Individual assessment report data were levelled and integrated with 1:250,000 compilations.
Use Cases
- Analyze subsurface geology based on the reprocessed residual total magnetic field grids.
- Map geological structures using the reduced-to-pole magnetic field transformation.
- Identify near-surface magnetic features based on the vertical derivative and tilt derivative products.
Strengths
- Data were levelled and integrated with 1:250,000 compilations, suggesting a standardized processing approach.
- Four derivative products (residual total magnetic field, reduced to pole, vertical derivative, tilt derivative) are provided as gridded PDFs.
- Original 250k geophysical data is referenced in a specific open file (YGS Open File 2017-17) for traceability.
Limitations
- Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
- Row count is unknown, which may limit suitability assessment.
- Data may reflect geographic/temporal/source bias inherent to open_canada.
