Description
Australian petroleum wells data, now integrated into the Geoscience Australia Borehole Database. The dataset includes header data, biostratigraphy, organic geochemistry, reservoir and facies, stratigraphy, velocity and directional surveys for offshore and onshore regions. Scientific data entry is generally only conducted for offshore wells, while onshore data is generally acquired from state geological surveys.
Use Cases
Analyze reservoir characteristics based on reservoir and facies data mentioned in the description
Conduct stratigraphic correlation based on stratigraphy and biostratigraphy data
Model subsurface velocity profiles based on velocity survey data
Compare offshore and onshore petroleum geology based on the geographic scope described
Strengths
Data includes multiple scientific themes: header data, biostratigraphy, organic geochemistry, reservoir and facies, stratigraphy, velocity and directional surveys.
Covers both offshore and onshore regions of Australia.
Limitations
Description metadata is limited; actual data quality requires manual inspection after download.
Row count is unknown, which may limit suitability assessment.
The dataset is marked as retired and superseded by another record (eCat 126310).
Provenance
