Description
Header data, biostratigraphy, organic geochemistry, reservoir and facies, stratigraphy, velocity and directional surveys are provided for offshore and onshore regions. Scientific data entry is generally only conducted for offshore wells, while onshore data is acquired from state geological surveys. This record has been retired and superseded by eCat 126310 as of June 2023, with the data now combined into the Geoscience Australia Borehole Database.
Use Cases
Analyze reservoir and facies data alongside stratigraphy to model hydrocarbon potential.
Correlate biostratigraphy and organic geochemistry features to assess source rock maturity.
Use velocity and directional survey data for subsurface mapping and well trajectory planning.
Compare offshore well header data with onshore data acquired from state surveys for regional studies.
Strengths
Includes multiple data themes: header data, biostratigraphy, organic geochemistry, reservoir and facies, stratigraphy, velocity and directional surveys.
Covers both offshore and onshore geographical regions.
Limitations
The dataset is retired and superseded, indicating it is no longer actively maintained or updated.
Scientific data entry is generally only conducted for offshore wells, suggesting potential gaps or lower detail for onshore data.
Provenance
Source
Australian Ocean Data Network and Geoscience Australia.
Collection Method
Data entry for offshore wells by scientific staff; onshore data acquired from state geological surveys.
Time Range
null
Freshness
null
Geography
Offshore and onshore regions of Australia.
This dataset is retired and has been combined into the Geoscience Australia Borehole Database (BOREHOLE). The original Petroleum Wells Online Tool is no longer available; data must be accessed through the Geoscience Australia Portal under the Borehole layers.
